Experience Luna Luna

Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy at The Shed - A Whimsical Revival of Art and Carnival

Step into a world of vibrant color, bold art, and imaginative storytelling at Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, an immersive art exhibition now on display at The Shed in Hudson Yards, New York City. The exhibition, which has been extended until March 16, 2025, revives the 1987 art carnival created by Austrian artist Andre Heller, fusing the fun of a traditional carnival with the brilliance of contemporary art.

The Origins of Luna Luna

In 1987, Andre Heller unveiled Luna Luna in Hamburg, Germany. This avant-garde carnival featured installations from renowned artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Salvador Dali. It was a groundbreaking blend of art and amusement, attracting over 300,000 visitors. Unfortunately, after its success, the installations were stored away and largely forgotten for decades.

An Unforgettable Experience

The exhibition invites visitors into a riotous, fun-filled space that’s as much a celebration of carnival joy as it is a serious art experience. From Basquiat to Haring, Dali to Lichtenstein, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore some of the 20th century’s greatest artistic minds in a playful, interactive context.

Exhibition Highlights

Luna Luna at The Shed features a dynamic collection of both original and new works, offering visitors a chance to interact with larger-than-life art installations:

Keith Haring’s Painted Carousel: A colorful carousel featuring Harings’ iconic figures and bold patterns.

Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Ferris Wheel: A towering, graffiti-inspired wheel that captures Basquiat’s’ raw, urban energy.

Salvador Dali’s Mirrored Dome: A reflective, surrealist dome that transports visitors into Dalis’ dreamlike world.

Roy Lichtenstein’s Glass Labyrinth: A pop art-inspired maze of glass panels that invite you to get lost in Lichtensteins bold graphics.
